Designing culture (buckle up!)
Historically bonuses and KPIs have trumped well-meaning human-centred rhetoric and driven highly questionable decision-making within organisations. Presented with the option of doing what they understand will lead to a better outcomes for people, or what will enable them to meet their targets, most chose the targets every time – and those that didn't take this option are often managed out through the natural selection process of performance reviews.
But two trends are creating a compelling opportunity for our well-meaning liberal human-centred rhetoric to have more impact - and it ain't all bad for the lair of capitalist lions either! We can choose to remain in our comfortable UX bubble ignorant of these trends, or we can shift our focus a little, lean in to a different type of challenge and have a more meaningful impact on the world in which we live. I suggest you choose the latter.
In this presentation I will explore these trends, draw upon insights from my recent graduation from the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and share insights from Meld's growing body of work in this space.
