Finding simple: Seat map design for everyone
Finding simple is the journey of how Eventbrite reimagined the reserved seating event space giving event organisers the power to design and visually assign tickets to seat maps of their own making. Reserved seating events allow event organisers to optimise revenue with tiered ticket pricing whilst providing attendees with a better user experience through selecting their own seat at the time of purchase. Reserved seating solutions until now were expensive, hard to use, visually uninspired and simply out of reach for many event organisers. Eventbrite now offers a product that is free to use (if the event is free) or charge a small fee when tickets are sold to paid events.
Traditionally in the realms of Ticketmaster and Ticketek and other fee for service companies, the team at Eventbrite embarked on a journey to create a browser based, visually lead design tool that enables seat map creation and management in a self service fashion. As UX architects the hardest thing we often have to do is reduce something huge and complex down to something that is learnable, usable, visually appealing, fit for purpose, valued and ultimately simple.
Jason will present his experiences at Eventbrite leading a team of designers with being tasked with creating a very specific highly interactive design tool utilising the latest HTML & Javascript technologies. The talk will cover the approaches used, the strategy behind the solution and how we used collaborative ideation and design techniques to achieve a desirable outcome.
