How to quantify the value of design through Empathy Benchmarking

This 60-minute workshop aims to educate and empower designers, it covers:
- What benchmarking is,
- Different approaches to benchmarking and how it can be used to help communicate the value of design, and
- Benchmarking to avoid detached quantification.
Attendees will understand the theory, learn from some case studies and get a chance to identify an experience that could benefit from benchmarking and develop their own research plan.
You'll leave with a clear understanding of the compelling business case for benchmarking and you'll be inspired to run your next study.
This session will be moderated by Dr. Amanda Warmerdam, UserTesting & Milly Schmidt, Atlassian.

Amanda Warmerdam brings UserTestingvnearly 15 years experience as an award-winning mixed-methods researcher, specialising in customer experience design. Amanda's experience spans management consulting, SaaS, digital agencies, academe, and government. Amanda was previously the Director of Customer Experience at UsabilityHub.Amanda holds a PhD in Psychology, Honours in Behavioural Science, and Bachelor of Business and Bachelor of Arts (Psychology). Amanda was awarded a National Health and Medical Research Council Grant for her PhD Research.

Milly Schmidt is a design manager at Atlassian, after working for 13 years in tech across engineering, product, research and design. With experience in both startups and universities, big tech and contracting, Milly's ability to create clarity, coach and consistently execute has led her to her passion: building and growing amazing design teams.
