Sizing Up Design: Building Predictability in the Creative Process

We have no time to think anymore, just design. Why is it so hard to see the value in design thinking? Our work is often underscoped and undervalued. Stakeholders want outputs, and they want them now. They don't see the value of the journey we take as designers to get the right outcome (with the right problem, right solution).

We are told what the business wants rather than why they need it and the outcome they are looking for. How do we make design more predictable so that our creative process is a given? We can spend less time explaining what we do and why, and spend more time in the doing.

This workshop will take you through PwC's approach to scoping design. Predictability is an asset that is boosting design literacy in our business and creating more design allies. We will run you through the same process we completed as a design team to build a predictable creative process. Throughout the workshop we will reflect on our PwC 'Research & Design Toolkit' to highlight what to prioritise at each phase of the design process, and what you can avoid. Contributions to this framework have come from consumer, government and non profit industries.

You'll learn by doing — applying our approach to practical exercises that will define what 'best practice' looks like and then leverage real project tensions to rescope design work.
