Dalia El-Shimy
Dalia is an engineer-turned-academic-turned-user-researcher. She was one of the first researchers at Shopify, and has helped grow the team and discipline she co-leads today as a Senior Product Research Lead. Initially based out of Shopify’s Montreal office, Dalia moved to Berlin in 2020 to help build out research in that location.
Before joining Shopify, she completed a PhD in electrical engineering at McGill University, and a bachelor of applied mathematics and engineering at Queen’s University. During her time at McGill, her work was largely focused on the intersection of human-computer interaction and music technology, focusing on the applicability of human-centred techniques to the design of new musical interfaces.
When she’s not nerding out about research, Dalia spends way too much time trying to figure out how to adapt her North American baking recipes to German ingredients, and/or obsessing over all things David Bowie.
